BUDGETING & ADMINISTRATION

A U-Turn the Wheel Program does not need a big budget if a community gets behind the initiative.

Program organisers have utilised a range of creative methods to make the most of limited budgets, a sample of which are shown below.

Presenters Most presenters are professionals whose employers approve of their participation. Many presenters volunteer their time as a community service as they believe that the trauma caused by road crashes should be addressed on a local level.

Volunteers Rotarians, Volunteers in Policing, APEX, Lions…..

Venue  Goulburn started by using the PCYC facilities. These proved too small for the student numbers and so the local TAFE campus was contacted. The TAFE has happily hosted students each year over 2 consecutive days free of charge!

Catering The Rotary Club of Goulburn provides a sausage sizzle lunch for all students. This is funded by various club fundraisers conducted throughout the year.

Administration Local Councils are providing administrative assistance where there is a Road Safety Officer employed.

Grants Community grants from Councils, banking institutions, motoring bodies and insurance groups…

Promotion Get the local newspaper and radio station on side. Utilise school newsletters to promote the program… A glossy brochure is not a must especially after the first few years.

A professional business group called RYDA has been established in Sydney and offers to provide the U-Turn the Wheel program to students for a fee. Should your community have the resources to be able to conduct U-Turn the Wheel independently of RYDA we would be happy to provide any administrative assistance to make your tasks easier.
